Zwift vs MyWhoosh: Free vs Paid, Compared

Published Updated By SmartBikeWiki editorial

Researched from official docs and public sources, checked .

MyWhoosh costs nothing to ride; Zwift costs $199.99 a year ($599.97 over three years at today’s price). Choose MyWhoosh if the money matters more than Zwift’s established community, or to try virtual riding before paying. Choose Zwift if you want virtual shifting with a Zwift Cog and Click, or a single paid app with workouts, plans and events. The two lists of supported equipment are not the same, so check your trainer against both vendors’ pages before deciding.

What each app will run on

Minimum specifications as each vendor states them. Zwift’s page was last updated 4 August 2026; MyWhoosh’s pages were read on 2 October 2026.

The difference that matters in practice: an older Intel Mac or an Apple TV HD runs Zwift’s minimum but is outside MyWhoosh’s stated list.

Trainers, bikes and controls

  • MyWhoosh’s “recommended equipment” list names trainers. It includes Elite Suito T, Elite Direto, Tacx NEO 2T and 3M, “Wahoo Kickr”, several Cycplus models, Zycle ZDrive, Oreka and the JetBlack Volt, plus smart bikes including the Wahoo KICKR Bike, Wattbike Atom and Stages SB20. It does not mention shifters, Zwift Click or virtual shifting, and tells riders to email support with their equipment model if they have problems.
  • Zwift Cog and Click are Zwift hardware. Zwift’s FAQ says they work with “Zwift Ready and Zwift Cog Compatible” trainers, and that they also function with ROUVY. It does not list MyWhoosh. See the virtual shifting guide.
  • Budget trainers. Whether a trainer such as the JetBlack Victory or Van Rysel D100 pairs with each app is a vendor-list question; see the trainers near $500 and the Bluetooth, ANT+ and Wi-Fi guide.

Event rules

MyWhoosh says a secondary power source is required for premium events with prize money, to pass its Performance Verification Program protocol, and is not required for standard events such as Tune-Up Tuesday and MyBunch races. A second power source means a power meter in addition to the trainer, so a rider who wants prize-money races on MyWhoosh needs one more device. We did not read a Zwift page with an equivalent rule, so no comparison is drawn.

What this page cannot answer

Which has the better community, graphics or racing is opinion and varies by time of day; we did not find a measured comparison. MyWhoosh’s subscription price and the number of free slot credits were not on the pages we read. Individual app reviews: Zwift and MyWhoosh.
