How we research

We keep two things apart: what a manufacturer claims, and what a named independent reviewer measured. Both are linked and dated. We do not run a lab or road tests.

Source hierarchy

For a spec, price or finding we use sources in this order:

  1. The manufacturer's own product page or spec table, recorded as stated and labelled a claim.
  2. The manufacturer's or an authorised store's own price page, read on the check date, in the store's own currency.
  3. Named independent reviewers' published measurements, paraphrased with the model they actually tested, a link and their name.
  4. App and platform documentation (Zwift, Wahoo, Garmin and others) for compatibility and connection details.

Where a number is missing because we could not read a primary source, the page says so instead of estimating. Sale prices are labelled as sale prices with the regular price beside them.

What our evidence labels mean

  • Claimed: a manufacturer's own figure, such as power accuracy or maximum slope. It is a claim, not a measurement.
  • Published finding: what a named reviewer reported when they measured or rode the product, with a link.
  • Reported price: a price taken from a reviewer or retailer because the maker's page could not be read, labelled as such.
  • Not stated: the source does not give it.

How prices and specs are checked and dated

Prices are the price shown on the store's page on the check date, in the store's own currency, and are re-checked monthly. Specs are re-checked quarterly or when a product launches. Every page shows when it was last checked, and material changes go in a dated log on the page or in the database change log. Arithmetic we do ourselves, such as totals and price gaps, is shown so you can redo it.

What we do not do

We do not run a lab or road tests. We do not measure power accuracy, noise or ride feel, and we do not assign scores or star ratings. Where a reviewer measured something, we cite them by name rather than present it as ours.

How pages are checked

Every fact is checked against its cited source, and each page gets a separate review pass before it is published. The corrections log lists what those reviews and readers have caught.
