Review of the earlier H3: power vs pedal and crank power meters in Zwift and TrainerRoad, 30x30 ERG repeats
What was reported
Reports power within a few watts of the reference meters most of the time (about ±5 W at worst in the data shown), and says the H3 held ERG targets better than the trainers he compared it with; the built-in cadence estimate was poor. Applies to the H3, the predecessor of the H3 Plus.
Power within roughly 1-2% of the pedals, about 61 dB at 20 mph and far quieter than the H2, with a 9 kg flywheel and stable resistance changes. Lacks the road-surface feel of pricier trainers.
Buy the H3 Plus if you want a direct-drive trainer with a heavy flywheel at around $480 and are happy with a ±2% claim. Saris showed $479.99 (a sale price against a $699.99 regular price) on 29 Sept 2026, but marked it out of stock: at $479.99 it is $70 under a KICKR CORE 2, at $699.99 it is $150 over. Know before you buy: every independent measurement in our database is of the earlier H3, not the H3 Plus.
What reviewers measured (on the H3)
BikeRadar (Nov 2019): power within about 1 to 2% of Garmin Vector pedals, about 61 dB at 20 mph, far quieter than the H2, a 9 kg flywheel and stable resistance changes. It lacks the surface feel of pricier trainers.
DC Rainmaker (Aug 2019): power within a few watts of reference meters most of the time and ERG targets held better than the trainers he compared, but poor built-in cadence estimates.
Per Cyclingnews’ news item, the H3 Plus claims accuracy within 2%, up to 2,000 W and gradients to 20%, and Saris calls it its quietest trainer. Those are manufacturer claims, and none of the reviews we read includes a reference-meter test of the Plus itself.
How it compares
Its claimed numbers sit between the Core 2 and V6 on power and grade (2,000 W at 20 mph, 20%). The JetBlack Victory and Core 2 have three or more independent reviews of the exact model; the H3 Plus has none in our data, which is the main reason to prefer them if the price gap is small.
Who should skip it
Buyers who want Wi-Fi, race mode or a bridge; and anyone who needs evidence on the current model rather than its predecessor.
